Group Cementos Cruz has recently acquired facilities, machinery and exploitation rights of the Cabezo Gordo West quarry, a mining exploitation of section A) located on the Mount of the same name, in the northern part of the municipality of Torre-Pacheco (MURCIA). It’s an exploitation of limestone material, marble type and Triassic origin, which is part of the Nevado-Filábride Complex in the foothills of the Cordillera Bética.
The quarry, currently owned by the company Áridos Cabezogordo, S. L., obtained his first authorization of exploitation in November 1957, but did not begin operation until May 1972. Since then, the quarry has been exerting its activity continuously.
The exploitation sits on a total area of 64 hectares, of which 21.3 correspond to the removable surface, and reserving the rest for benefit facilities and other services (crushing and classification plant, stockpiles of finished products, offices, workshop, scale, etc.).
The extraction of limestone method is the descending banks one, by controlled blasting. The rock, thus extracted is loaded using a backhoe in the dumpers, carrying it to the installation of crushing and classification. Two types of sands, five types of gravel and two types of artificial aggregates are obtained in this plant. The production capacity is 350 tons/hour.
The staff is composed of 10 people.
